Summer sports in Pontresina

Hiking, biking, outdoors, mountain experiences

Chequered shirts, red socks, and a walking stick—this old-fashioned image of hiking is now very much a thing of the past. Today it’s just a case of switching off your smartphone and laptop and heading out into the beauty of nature. And that’s exactly what Pontresina is perfect for: With its 580-kilometre network of hiking trails and 400 kilometres of bike trails, it is one of the most popular hiking and biking destinations in Switzerland... And that’s not all!

Walther summer

1. Alpine brunch, please!

Enjoy the alpine brunch at the Morteratsch alpine show dairy . This wonderful place in the middle of nature is located near the Morteratsch railway station. With regional products, cheese and cakes, no wish remains unfulfilled. Daily 9:30 to 12:00 (except Monday).

2. Alpine air and golf greens

How about a game of golf on one of the 3 Engadine greens? The picturesque alpine panorama and varied golf courses will delight professionals and beginners alike. The Engadine golf tradition already goes back over 125 years. Did you know, for example, that the golf course in Sameden is the oldest in Switzerland? By the way: as a Walther guest you benefit from a 20% discount on green fees at the Samedan and Zuoz-Madulain golf courses.

3. Gateway to the South

The south within reach: From Pontresina, the UNESCO World Heritage railway line takes you to Tirano (Italy) and back. With gelati e caffè on the piazza, immerse yourself in the Italian atmosphere and round off the day at the Walther Trattoria.

4. On philosophical tracks...

The breathtaking view over the Upper Engadine lake district makes Muottas Muragl a real highlight in summer and winter. In summer you can also hike in the footsteps of philosophical personalities such as Meta von Salis, Annemarie Schwarzenbach or Erich Kästner. If the philosophers' circular trail is not enough for you, we recommend the panoramic trail to Alp Languard.

5. Fly fishing

From the beginning of June to mid-October, you can once again discover the dreamlike Engadine mountains in a new way while fly fishing. Due to their location and warmth, the Lej Nair Nair or Lej Pitschen below Lago Bianco on the Bernina Pass are particular highlights for fly fishers. Never fished before? Then our local fly fishing guide Werner Locher will be happy to tell you all the tips and tricks.
